OK here is what the press release says “What started as an unstructured poem Joy had written during the summer of 2023 had turned into an electrifying darkpop track in the matter of a few hours. The vulnerable and stab-in-the-heart lyricism paired with “the 1975” style electric guitar in the chorus creates a daring and stark contrast to other modern pop music today. The song falls into the likeness of “BRAT” by Charli XCX with its bluntness and the seriousness of “reputation” by Taylor Swift. This track is one that cannot be missed.
the song is out 3.28.2025”
Here is what I say. First of all, this song is dope and hits us where the aforementioned name brand artists don’t. It tickles our indie bone.
With the 70’s piano chords backed by an 80’s r&b loping groove, fronted by a 90’s acid jazz vocal style, all brought together by today’s modern production, you get this timeless feel.
And then there are the lyrics, which to be fair, we don’t know exactly what they are because they’re not listed. But what I think I head was “In the year that I lived as you / I understood why you were miserable / You saw yourself in me / and for that I – you rejected everything / And in the year that I lived as you / I learned your tactical approach to decisions / ‘Cause I played a part in an active militia / “cause you’ve been writing words on linen / And I have trouble letting things go / So I thought I would take a dive into your waist pool …” It goes on but I am too lazy to transcribe the rest. The only words I am not that sure about are linen and waist pool. But even if I have these wrong, the rest of the lyrics are singular, tell a story, and make me want to know more.
I also want to hear more. Can we get some remixes please?
Thank You Julianna Joy for this great track!

EDITORS NOTE: Just found out the lyrics are “”i played a part in an active militia / cause you blame all your wars on women / and i have trouble lettings go so i thought i’d take a dive into your waste pool” – even better!
